The group at Project AngelHeart with their decorated bags

What do you get when you mix 36 hands and feet together for a week at a mile above sea level? This year's 8th grade mission trip!

Participants included Bryce Koch, Travis Niemoth, Josh Wilsey, Breann Baker, Sarah Benson, Sarah Gregory, Amanda Jensen, Tiffany Gregory and Kayla Cochnar. Sponsors were Cathy Cochnar, Justin Pohlmann (a senior youth & family ministry major from Midland Lutheran College), Pastor Zellmer and Dana Rains.

The first part of the week was filled with work projects at various helping agencies in Denver. Monday found the group at Project AngelHeart decorating breakfast bags and making meal deliveries to clients, and at Grant Avenue Street Reach serving close to 1000 meals to those in need. Tuesday's work project was at JeffCo Action Center where the day was spent sorting donations, preparing emergency food supplies for clients, taping drywall at the Santa House and a variety of other jobs. Wednesday was spent at the Food Bank of the Rockies where we loaded orders and sorted donations received from local grocery stores and food suppliers.

While group building was a major piece of the entire trip, it really started to show by Wednesday evening when we put up our tents. Thursday the group hit the Cache La Poudre River just west of Fort Collins for some serious group challenges through whitewater rafting. The afternoon included a drive up to the Alpine Visitors Center on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park to take in the beautiful scenery that had surrounded us throughout the week, from far and near.

Friday morning the group woke to find ice on the tents, but were no worse for the wear and happily packed up and headed home.

Thank you to the parents who shared their children with us for the week, it was truly amazing! And a special thanks to the adults who wrote devotions and sponsored this trip!
